RESIDENCIES LIVING/STUDIO SPACES ARTISTS FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

hear from our artists...

"Art 342 is unique in that it blends local artists from Fort Collins with out-of-towners, creating an instant forum of regional artists with varying attitudes toward contemporary art. I was struck by the level of work being produced behind the walls of the studios- through the generous support of the Franzens, artists are able to comfortably focus on their art alone- a luxury that separates Art 342 from other artist in residence programs."
"The ART 342 residency was instrumental in helping me connect to my current art practice now that I was away from the art scene my work had come to maturity in. Through the supportive environment provided by artists Jim and Wendy Franzen, I was able to immerse myself and create at a level of profundity I had not achieved in a year. My process was facilitated by the residency's beautiful location, the spaciousness of the studios, the availability of support/feedback and the opportunity for quiet working time." Read more...
"When I arrived here I was distracted - a terrible state of mind for making work. Being up here helped me focus and slow down; I was able to work small and take my time and experiment without worrying about anyone looking over my shoulder. I felt supported and respected as an artist. And of course, everything about the location is beautiful - the town, the view, the house and studio. I'm sure this helped me feel relaxed."
"The studios are spacious, airy, and comfortable. For a painter who is interested in the sky, light, and atmosphere of the Rocky Mountains and plains, the sliding glass garage door permits the opportunity to paint the landscape from life, while remaining inside the comfort of the studio. Besides the ideal physical work space, there is a perfect balance of camaraderie and seclusion among the residents and the Franzens."
"Art 342 has affected me in profound and indelible ways. Art 342 provided me with the essential ingredients for creativity and artistry to grow; things I desperately needed. Time, space, a community and beautiful surroundings. I felt as if the sky was the limit as far as development and growth. I have seen a dramatic shift in the work, both materially and psychologically, there is light, color and a sense of depth in my drawings. An openness and joy that I attribute to my time spent here." "Art 342 is a place that combines the magic vistas of open skies and Rocky Mountain sunsets with the comforts of a home away from home. The studio spaces are large and well-designed and the house is warm and cozy. Art 342 invited me to discover what was possible when I was given all the time and support I needed in order to be able to fully immerse myself in the studio."
"It's pretty standard fare that a residency gives you the time and space to make the work that is important to you. ART 342 goes above and generously beyond the basic needs and expectations of a great residency. The studios and accommodations are spacious, luxurious and private. Fort Collins is a cool town and Colorado is a magical place with its rainbows, sunny skies, mountains and occasional unicorn sightings. The only downfall of ART 342 is that eventually you have to leave and go back to the real world."
